Norwegian Space Cluster is a collaborative network connecting existing space-related companies, those aiming to expand into the space economy, and others with a strong intereset in growth and innovation in the space sector.
Space economy refers to the full range of activities associated with the exploration, development and use of space in space and non-space markets.
Space economy includes all industries involved in manufacturing, operations, and services that enable or benefit from activities in space both directly and indirectly.
Key components of the space economy
All companies and organizations may apply for membership in Norwegian Space Cluster. We set no limits for our member’s geographical location, and we have members located both all over Norway and outside the country.
Upstream activities are those that occur before a space mission and include research, development, production, and preparation of the equipment and technology required for missions. Examples include:
Rocket development, satellite development, spacecraft development, or components and systems for these; R&D (such as new technologies, advanced materials, propulsion systems, robotics, navigation systems, and research projects); as well as testing, simulation, education, and training.
Downstream activities typically involve the use, analysis, and commercialization of data or technology collected in space. Examples include:
Management and operation of communication satellites, Earth observation and geospatial services (such as weather monitoring, mapping, environmental monitoring, agriculture, etc.), satellite-based navigation, space tourism, research and science (analyzing data and conducting experiments performed in space), as well as education, manufacturing, and services utilizing space technology.
Member benefits
There is growing activity in the global space industry, and Norway has strong industrial expertise in this field, including leading capabilities in satellite production, launch capacity, and ground stations for retrieving satellite data. The ambition of the cluster's initiators is to contribute to increased commercial activity, value creation, and exports across all parts of Norway's space industry through initiatives that foster greater collaboration.
